Last mixed BG

These two backgroungs will appear in the ending scenes, though at night time. They are extremely large as there will be huge camera pans and zooms in them.
I built them from various layers and elements of all the different other festival backgrounds.

The Locals - SC 02 SQ 05

Originally I planned to have one local guy in every day clothing passing by. I exchanged him through 3 locals in yukata (Japanese light version of a kimono). On festivals in Japan many people dress up in colourful yukata, with flowery patterns, little handbags and round fans. Due to the frame size and composition not all of the details can be seen in actual film, therefore I would like to present them here. I really like the red fish-hadbag of the girl in the middle.

Painted Fireworks

The whole time during the production I was wondering if I really should let the film end with hanabi (fireworks), as I have drawn or painted fireworks ever before, because I always thought it looks too difficult. So I had no idea how to do it, until I spontaneously decided to give it a try today. I painted all the frames without presketching directly into photoshop.
Considering that I was absolutely clueless before, I am positively surprised about the results.

Scene 02 Sequence 07

Hopefully multiple purpose BG. The different layers are quite detailed that they can hopefully be reused and rearranged for further scenes.
I like bringing in some specific detailed parts. I love the Convenie in this scene. It looks very Japanese. The lamps on top of the big grey building have the writing "Tanabata Festival" (Tanabata Matsuri) on them. The signs on the building say Sakura, Omiyage (= souvenir) and Toukyou Hands. On the red stall it says Takoyaki, which are octopus balls.

Scene 04 Sequence 02 Background

This is a possible close-up/ zoom-in of the Female Taiko Drummers.

I will arrange the Taiko drummer group in this background and bring in some camera movement.

Scene 08 Sequence 01 Background

I' m not that happy with the first  coloursing. Therefore I took out the blue and purple and replaced it through yellow and orange tones..

This shot is from the perspective inside of a a takoyaki stall. Hiko will observe the octopus at the front.

Scene 01 Sequence 08 - Background colouring

Finally I finished this rather complicated background of the opening scene. It shows the street of Hiko's house.

Scene 03 Sequence 01 BG close ups

Since this festival background is rather large, I cut a few close ups. I guess they will work well as reuse for other scenes too, where I haven't decided on the precise background yet

Scene 03 Sequence 01 BG

This is the background with all its layers.I'm not sure if these are the gates which I will finally use for this BG. This is rather a test how it works with the few gates I had already prepared. This background is set up in different layers to allow perspective motion.

Scene 03 Sequence 01 BG background layer

This is the street when Hiko first enters the festival. It is only the background layer. There will also be festival on the side of the street.
I accidently filled a whole A4 paper, which is larger than the actual TV screen. So I decided to have a camera pan and zoom in this scene, which will even be beneficial , as it will create a bigger impression of the scenery. Moreover, since Hiko is walking in this sequence, a pan up to the gates lets me keep her legs out of the frame for the whole scene, which saves a lot of unecessary difficult animation.
(For the people who can read Japanese; yes, there are two karaoke bars in this street )

Here's some background outlines/ layout when she enters the festival. The background is held in two layers, the gates which will be build seperately, will be placed between them so I can make a perspective move.
