The necessary budget for the film production will probably be between £ 100-150. It sounds like a but adds through small expenses, such as production bible, animation paper, pencils... It also depends on the amount of copies being made. I chose to have to copies of both the production bible and the storyboard.
Here's a short list of the expenses on equipment and production copies:
- Production Bible each:
- colour pages £ 3.00
- black & white pages £ 3.00
- binding £ 5.00
- Storyboard each:
- Black & white copies £ 3.00
- Binding £ 5.00
- · Copy paper £ 4.00 per pack (estimated amount approx. 5-6)
- · Reference prints £ 0.14 per sheet (estimated amount approx. 20-30)
- · Pencils £ 0.80 each (estimated amount approx. 10)
- · Light box lamp replacement £ 8.00
- · Folders, sketchbooks £ 1.00-4.00 each (estimated amount approx. 5-6)
- · External Hard Drive £ 60.00 or memory sticks £ 10.00
The expenses up to now are already about £ 60.00-70.00. More budget will be needed for the DVD and packaging.
Of course there are possibilities to produce a lot cheaper. Yet nice presentation costs a little bit more. Moreover working with appropriate good equipment makes work much more convenient and enjoyable and can save a lot of time. It can be very helpful to be able to work from home and not fully be dependant on public university equipment. As my production is 2D hand drawn with digital colouring, I invested in a scanner, hard drive to transfer data and new graphic tablet. Predominately I got this equipment for my third year project, yet it’s a one-off investment and useful for further projects after university.
